As a site develops, the number plugins being used can start to creep up. After a while it’s not longer clear whether or not all the installed plugins are doing something useful.
A previous tip covered including a changlog within the WordPress theme files. One addtional feature in my changelog files is a list of plugins required with the current theme. It’s a simple list of plugin name along with brief description of use, sometimes with a note indicating that a particular plugin is just for experimental purposes.
For the longest time the theme for this site had a half completed list. Finally I  got sick of the number of installed plugins. Half an hour spent getting the list up to date  revealed about 5 redundant plugins which could be safely uninstalled.
